The Linux kernel repository site temporarily migrate

After learning last week that kernel.org, the Linux kernel repository, had been hacked , site managers had initiated an internal audit and, moreover, had made ??known the case to the authorities. Among the measures adopted, of course, was the restoration of the site and checking the published sources do not hide any type of malicious code, but while these actions are executed, Linus Torvalds has decided to publish the new version 3.1 of candidate kernel Linux on a different website.

The project is still in motion and while the problems are solved, Torvalds has opted to continue the project on GitHub with the idea of returning to kernel.org when everything returns to normal. So, for now, GitHub has become the “official repository” version 3.1-rc5 kernel since, for the audit and maintenance, Torvalds could not upload the files to the repository. Temporary migration does not respond to any suspicion or anything, just kernel.org does not support as long as they upload to the site inspection and, of course, the project can not stand when so many people working on it and developments occurring daily.

Well, what we know from kernel.org? Well, the truth, after a week of knowing the event, we know nothing new. The website still shows the same warning last week but John Hawley himself gave few clues to follow the path through your profile on Google +. Among the actions that attacked last week (in addition to be a great disappointment and sacrifice many hours of sleep), kernel.org Google received a request to unpublish android.git.ko while the problems were solved simply for safety and prevent any gap in Android. Furthermore, as announced. were working to restore previous backups to return to “a safe spot.”

Throughout the duration of these works, the new Linux kernel RC will be sought in GitHub.
